2022 Update on Caregiver's Salary in Israel

What you need to know! Ever wonder why you are receiving lower than your minimum wage? Here are the 5 things you need to know about your Caregiving Salary in Israel:

1. 5,300 NIS is the minimum wage in Israel.
2. In most cases, the "pocket money" a caregiver receives is (which is not mandatory) part of their salary and is paid in advance, this is unless the parties have agreed otherwise.
3. From the minimum wage the employer can deduct amounts ( see attached photo showing the deductions of caregivers who work in the Jerusalem employees' patient residence):
- For medical insurance costs, the maximum deduction per month is 146.55 NIS.
- Living expense deductions are based on the location of the patient's house and whether or not the patient owns it (81.91 NIS). As shown in the attached example, the caregiver worked in the Jerusalem area and the patient owns the house.
- Expenses for the economy - With the employee's written consent, in a language that he is fluent in, the employer will deduct 10% of the minimum wage from his salary.
4. Please note that the following information applies to Israeli caregivers and foreign caregivers alike.
5. For the purpose of determining the employee's social rights, the minimum wage (5,300 NIS) is the determining salary. This means that the percentage deducted from an employee's salary at the end of the employment is taken from the salary before all deductions have been made. For more information:
