THIS IS OUR LIFE

Rose. Everyone in Israel and all over the world who saw her video during the X Factor Israel auditions was thrilled and amazed by her wonderful voice. Rose became a household name after she got the standing ovation from the four judges as well as the audience. It was a do or die audition and I was not even sure if she was ready to take that big stage... until I heard her SING. It was months ago when I heard about a Filipina auditioning for XFactor Israel. It was taped months ago so the rumors of her getting the standing ovation quite made a stir in four corners of Filipino Community here in Israel. But it was not until a week ago when we finally saw her on TV in her over-sized blue shirt and pants and her red plastic bag. Honestly, I was already teary-eyed when I saw her in that short interview before they put her on stage. Memories of our sacrifices, our struggle to change our lives and of course the agony of being away from our family hammered me down a bit. And for Rose, the fate which led her to remain single at 46 because according to her, she was so busy working that she already forgot to find someone for her. Isn't that sad? But Rose also gave a huge inspiration to everyone. Her determination and hope that through this competition, she will be able to change the course of her life. For someone who spent most of her life working as a caregiver, you can only imagine the pain and longing that she's going through. But with hope and perseverance, she has now the chance to turn 180 degrees and take a different path towards her dreams. She has the talent and the heart to make it and with the help of those who support her, I believe that she will win this competition. Rose taught us to dream big. If your dreams doesn't scare you, then it's not big enough. She conquered that big stage for the first time and gave her all. She was even ready for the fall out and rejection but she perseveres. It was huge, it was scary but Rose faced it with nothing but her voice and her dreams. When she opened her mouth to sing, she already captured everyone's heart with the first note. I knew then that I have another reason to be proud as a Filipino. That's US! We are strong and talented. We have so many reasons to be proud of and we have all the right to dream and live that dream. Some may have no choice, but I believe that everyone has a choice. It's the fear and the lack of self-confidence which hinders us to reach our full potential as individuals. We are always afraid of the consequences of our actions. We don't believe much in ourselves so we just settle for what we have and what was given to us. Filipinos are known to be brave and determined. We are one of the few races who seldom back down in any challenges. But we are still human beings who gets tired and weary. Sometimes we are left with no choice but lay down our sword and give up but we always find reasons to stand up again and again every time we fall. Our family is where we draw our strength, our fuel to survive. We belong in a society where you have to fight back with life itself for you to survive and I often wonder if it's a good thing. That's one of the reasons why we became strong individuals. That's the reason why we are very family oriented. We grew up knowing that we have a family to honor and protect. We endure the years and years of being away from our love ones to earn a decent amount of money to help them. Yes, it's rewarding and fulfilling but at the end of the day, when we are in our beds or sleeping quarters, and the realization of being alone and being away from our family sinks in, it is very difficult and heartbreaking. And to Rose, may you continue to be an inspiration not just to the Filipinos but to every single individual who are struggling and fighting. May we also find the strength to take risks, to dream and fight our way to that dream. That no matter how much pain and circumstances we will face, we will endure it and believe that we can conquer it. You are truly gifted and we can't thank you enough for inspiring us. Rose, you sang This is MY Life in front of hundreds if not thousands of people and the song sums up your feelings and your life. It was so beautiful. But I want you to know that you are not alone. THIS IS OUR LIFE Rose because you are now representing the millions of Filipinos all over the world, and we cannot wish for anyone to represent us but you. You are our voice to the world and we believe that you will reach the top in the end. Your dreams will be our dreams and your success will be our success. We will be behind you all the way and we will do our best to help you reach that shining star.
