Last May 8, 2020, the Population and Immigration Authority published a notice for Foreign Caregivers on Corona Restrictions on Weekly Rest Days.
The said restriction was and still strictly implemented as the Ministry of Health is aware about the living conditions of foreign caregivers outside their employers home during their weekly rest day.
Recently, the Foreign Woker’s Labor Rights received a significant number of complaints from Foreign Workers who are working in Nursing Homes regarding the prohibition of their right to weekly day off or rest day outside the Nursing home.
The management and some private institutions prohibit them from going out and take their rest day in fear of the spread of Covid-19.
The Population and Immigration Authority published another notice to answer these complaints:
It is clear that Caregivers who are working in Nursing Homes are free to exercise their right to weekly rest day. However, they should and must abide with the previous guidelines regarding accommodations and sleeping arrangements in communal apartments used by group of other persons.
Please read carefully all the guidelines and adhere with all the rules implemented regarding Covid-19 safety and precautions.
