Death in the Family? You are entitled to PAID Mourning Days!

Death in the Family? You are entitled to PAID Mourning Days!

Sudden death in the family may cause discomfort and disorientation because of grief. It is understandable that you need a break from work and have some days of mourning. Here are some things you should know about mourning days:

Source:

The Commissioner for Foreign Workers' Labor Rights

1) All workers are entitled to payment if they were absent from work due to mourning for their first-degree relatives (parents, children, spouses, and siblings), regardless of their religion and sector of employment.

2) The payment is based on the number of mourning days accepted within the community to which the worker belongs, and up to a maximum of 7 days.

3) Workers who wish to receive payment for days of mourning must have earned at least 3 months of seniority at their workplace. If, however, the worker is employed by a maintenance and cleaning company, seniority does not affect their pay.

4) Workers employed on certain days of the week can be paid only for the days when they should have worked but were absent due to mourning.
