Manage Anxiety and Recover from Covid-19 Stress

Just when we thought we are already out of the worst part of the whole catastrophe, another wave enveloped the entire world and some countries are struggling physically, economically and spiritually while waiting for that perfect vaccine to come.

It seems that the cases are rising and continue to rise despite the effort and dedication of the government and its people.

Bad News.

These neverending news scattered around Social Media, television, radio and newspapers are taking a toll on our mental health which causes anxiety and stress that for months, we weren't able to manage and somehow, we got used to it.

While we have different reactions to this stressful situation that we are in right now, how we respond is the most important aspect that we need to pay attention to.

Some people are overly stressed because they can't go to the hair salon and get their hair and nails done. Some because they can't travel and visit their loved ones. And some are stressed because they are immuno-compromised and susceptible in getting the disease.

No matter how shallow our reasons are, we can’t ignore the fact that we were forced to halt our normal life and conform to the “new normal”. This transition was not easy to most people and some don't even want to accept this reality.

Stress during this outbreak can include anxiety attacks because you worry too much about your well-being and the health of your loved ones. Some might experience difficulty in sleeping, loss of appetite, will tend to turn into vices like alcohol consumption and cigarettes. Stress can also cause high blood pressure and worsening of underlying health conditions.

Feeling stressed and having anxiety attacks is normal. Especially during this pandemic which everything seems to be uncertain.

  • The only way you can do this is to take care of yourself and your loved ones. When everyone else seems to be feeling the same, you have to be strong for them.
  • Look at the brighter side of what's happening. People learned how to take care of each other. People are forced to stay home, giving them more time with their family and loved ones.
  • Start a hobby or something that you would really like to do.
  • Learn something and continue to educate yourself.
  • Take a break from Social Media, news about Covid-19 and try not to dwell on the negativity and stress.
  • Spend time with friends and family through video calls and chat. Engage with positive conversation and do not be afraid to share what you feel.

Always remember that you are not the only person who's feeling the effect of this pandemic. There are some people who suffer more than you do. People who lost their job, lost their business and worst, lost a loved one. Be always mindful and considerate. Not everyone you meet is the same as you. People can be very sensitive about anything because they lose everything because of Covid-19. You don't get to judge them on how they cope with the situation.
